Part 3 23th Day - 23.06.2019 Daintree National Park Mangroves are salt-tolerant trees, also called halophytes, and are adapted to life in harsh coastal conditions. They contain a complex salt filtration system and complex root system to cope with salt water immersion and wave action. Part 3 23th Day - 23.06.2019 Daintree National Park My parents had a book about explorers. In this book was a painted picture showing the repair of the leaking Endeavour, the ship of James Cook. When I was a child, this painting captivated me and I imagined how this ship had been brought ashore. Part 3 23th Day - 23.06.2019 Daintree National Park Pictures of mangroves have impressed me since childhood. For me, they have become synonymous with adventure in the South Seas. I associate them emotionally with novels by Jack London or Daniel Defoe, to name just two. A lonely island with a castaway without mangroves is not possible. Today I know that they form a complex ecosystem and contribute greatly to coastal protection. Their destruction also means the destruction of human habitats when tropical storms strike the coast, which no longer have mangroves. to be continued... ;-) © 2019 Arlequin Photographie
