Guatemala, North Shore of the Lake of Atitlan
Atitlan is a large closed (without drain) lake in the southwest of Guatemala. Area 130.1 km². Maximal depth of about 340 metres and an average depth of 220 metres. Occupies a valley dammed by volcanic ash. The name of the lake is translated from Mayan as "the place where the rainbow takes on colors."
