York, The Shambles - Narrow Street with Overhanging Buildings
A very narrow Medieval street in York. It is the oldest recorded street in the city. Its name means 'The Slaughterhouses' and it was home to many butchers - back in the Middle Ages it would have been messy with animal remains and blood (that's why the word 'Shambles' can mean 'Total Disorder).
