1930 Biston strataria (Oak Beauty)

1930 Biston strataria (Oak Beauty)
Geometridae, Ennominae. Wingspan: 34-54mm.

A common species in central and southern UK, most often seen around mature Oak (Quercus sp) woodland. It is one of our larger UK Geometrids which appears in the Early Spring. Using a light trap, it is possible to get numerous specimens in at a single session.

The flight season in the UK is usually from late February to April, peaking in March, although in Cornwall, in mild years occasional individuals can be seen in January and as late as July.
