OMG. That's hysterical, Alan! So perfect! Fabulous title.
One of the glass plate negatives I recently bought has a blot exactly on the chimney that looks like an explosion. Kind of a companion to this one - but not nearly as funny.
I'll try to post it later tonight.

Thanks, Deborah, glad you found it funny! I liked the fun-looking group--with funny party hats, plus all the men are wearing Groucho glasses--and I thought perhaps I could do some creative cropping and editing in order to salvage it. But then I noticed the ductwork at upper left and the "furnace malfunctioned" caption occurred to me, so luckily I didn't have to go to the trouble of figuring out what to do with the blot.
