Thanks neira-Dan, it certainly lives up to it's name of Hairy Shieldbug.

New to me. Looks friendly but I bet it is a pest of something-or-other!
Very fine macro capture again!

Hi Andy, not really a pest, not seen any damage to any plants in my own garden even though these fellows do suck the sap from many types of plants and fruits. My garden is set up to look good for us humans but also as a refuge and habitat for many species of insects, it seems to be working well in both respects. This shieldbug is one of the commonest species in the garden, they love fluffy seedheads of plants like dandelions and thistles, both of which flourish in the garden amoungst the cultivated flowers and other wild flowers.

Pleased to hear it, Adrian! I used to get many different shieldbug types in my gardens of yore but not this one. It's true that they didn't cause much damage and I enjoyed having them!
