Souvenir Cup: Doukobours Ploughing N.W.T. Canada

Souvenir Cup: Doukobours Ploughing N.W.T. Canada
SOUVENIR OF WINNIPEG - Pewter Cup

Date: Approximately 1903

Originator: Sold by W. F. White Curios

Notation: One of five Winnipeg/Manitoba scenes depicted on this cup.

This image, based on an actual photograph, was quite popular at the time and appeared on many early postcards. The location of the scene itself has been attributed to several places in Western Canada - mostly in Saskatchewan. The most credible reference that I have found, however, places it here in Manitoba in the Swan River Valley - taken in 1901.

Unusual choice of images for a souvenir item. Usually it was parliament, city hall, Fort Garry gate and maybe a shot of Main Street. Quite impressive.

There was a later version of this cup that included The Gate, Parliament, St. John's College, and Ralph Conner's Church.
