There was a perfectly good footpath- no idea why they had to walk in the sea;-) It wasn't that warm either and the water was decidedly fresh.
Saint Michael's Mount

St. Michael's Mount lies on a tidal Island in Cornwall and is reached by causeway at low tide. In the 11th century it was given to the Benedictines by Edward the Confessor and was the Cornish counterpart to Mont Saint-Michel. Since the 17th century is has been the home of the St. Aubyn family. The current castle dates from the late 19th century and it is now managed by the National Trust .
