Gisund

Looking back into Gisund with the sun already rather low at 1 p.m. Official sunset time was 3 p.m. but the sun disappeared earlier because of the mountains.

Sailing out of Kirkenes on MS Nordkapp there was arctic steam fog over Bøkfjord. At 1.22 p.m. the sun was already going down. Finnmark is in the same time zone as Oslo whereas just over the border in Russia it's 2 hours later (which would fit much better)

A brief moment of really strong activity at 10 p.m. in the Barents sea just off Berlevåg
Loppa timelapse

My first ever timelapse, made from 196 photos using Picasa. It's a bit hectic because I kept changing my viewpoint too often but I hope it manages to give an impression.

Aurora over Lopphavet

Lopphavet, a notoriously stormy stretch of sea, was exceedingly calm that day. Northern lights started early in the evening, this was taken at 6 p.m. near the island of Silda.

L'Ancresse Bay
L'Ancresse Bay is a large sandy bay in the north of Guernsey which is popular with both swimmers and surfers in summer. Because the land is flat it was heavily fortified with Martello towers all around the bay, forts and batteries on the headlands and a German anti tank wall. Behind the bay is Ancresse common with its golf course and megalithic tombs.

Windy weather

A windy day at the northeastern corner of Guernsey near Fort Doyle and Beaucette Marina with Herm Island in the background. The numerous reefs can pose a hazard to sailors not well acquainted with the waters around the islands.
Port Soif
Port Soif is a near circular sandy bay on the NW coast of Guernsey. At low tide it falls completely dry but is a sheltered bathing place when the tide comes in. With the tide going out currents can get dangerous.
Grande Grève
Grande Grève is the bay on the western side of La Coupée. A very steep path leading down to the beach had to be rerouted because of a major landslide (the light coloured scar seen on the right).
The large island in the background is Guernsey.

La Coupée
La Coupée is a narrow isthmus connecting Sark and Little Sark. It's just 3m wide and drops 80m on both sides. The concrete road was built in 1945 by German PoW. Before railings were erected (in 1900) people often had to crawl over La Coupée on their hands and feet.
