Hljóðaklettar are volcanic plugs eroded by Jökulsá á Fjöllum river, showing irregularly curved basalt columns. In the background left an intact crater can be seen.

Hljóðaklettar sind Teil einer Kraterreihe, die vom Fluss Jökulsá á Fjöllum erodiert wurden, sodass nur noch die Schlote mit vielfältig geformten Basaltsäulen übrig blieben. Im Hintergrund links ist ein noch intakter Krater sichtbar.

Schönen Dank, Lutz! Ja, das mit der Größenreferenz ist in Island oft ein Problem. Wir waren diesmal in Ecken, wo sehr wenig Touris sind, und hier im Nationalpark durfte auch kein Auto hin. Bäume sind die Birken im Hauptbild, die werden nicht groß... Ich bräuchte einen Meterstab oder Geologenhammer;-)

A beautiful and fascinating landscape...........it's almost other-worldly! This is very nicely composed and I love the contrast between the lush green and earthy brown colours. It all looks fantastic in the sunshine.

Thanks a lot, Keith! Many stretches of the river gorge are just greyish-brownish with hardly any vegetation, but some places like here are surprisingly green. Most of the greenery are birch trees, they don't get any higher!
