Peckham - Staffordshire Street - the east side looking north

Peckham - Staffordshire Street - the east side looking north
A group of photos of a small area of Peckham in South London, that was commissioned by a friend for an elderly aunt, who used to live there, but had returned to Ireland and who wanted to see what the area looked like in 2006. This is the location of the aunt's home, before the street was redeveloped

The theory is that individual houses with their own gardens do provide a more pleasant environment. The trouble is that they often break up communities to clear the area to build them.
Peckham has been a very violent area, with drug-related gang crime. Just around the corner was an estate where the local police always looked for stolen cars, before they looked anywhere else! So these houses are an attempt to regenerate the district.
