From the Inside of a Bus Shelter

21 Jun 2020 4 4 84
There is something engaging about using the dirty glass of local bus shelters as filters and an otherwise ordinary image made in this way can be enlivened by a person running across the field of view. Voila! Nikon D3s + Tamron AF 70-210mm f/2.8 SP LD 67D lens.

Autumn Leaves in June, and a Discarded Glove

18 Jun 2020 2 1 85
Why? Maybe there is a link between the disposable glove and the nearby Open Reach BT boxes. Nikon D3s + Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AF-D lens.

The light is endlessly fascinating.

Tree in Early Spring (85mm)

85mm. But on a 70-300mm zoom lens. If I had grasped at the time of making the picture that I had framed the zoom at 85mm I would have used a prime lens of that length. But maybe it wouldn't have made much difference, and the zoom has VR, a feature which I once held in disdain, but no more. At f/8 I suppose all lenses become pretty much equal.

Levi Strauss Jeans - Nikkor 35-70mm f/2.8 AF

07 Jun 2020 4 2 68
Irrespective of whether I use the 35-70mm on a full frame or a crop sensor camera, I strongly favour the maximum telephoto setting. I might as well just fit an 85mm and shoot with that.

Sunrise Over Curtin Ridge

I photographed the bedroom curtains after they had been drawn closed. I put the resulting image through Lightroom and turned it through a right angle, then cropped it square. Tamron 70 - 210mm f2.8 LD SP 67D lens.

Steps and Stages

I am getting more closely acquainted with the elderly Tamron AF 70-210mm f/2.8 SP LD 67D that I picked up for a song on eBay almost four years ago. Sometimes it seems very good. A fast shutter speed improves my chances - 1/500th here, at a focal length of 85mm. Now I am experimenting with smaller apertures in case f/2.8 is asking too much - here I had set f/5.6. Also, I think the choice of subject is important, such as these plant pots with their hard edges.

Post Box by Tamron 70-210mm f/2.8

Perhaps I am on the threshold of becoming a man of letters. This was shot at 210mm, 1/640th; f/5.6. This is the Tamron AF 70-210mm f/2.8 SP LD 67D lens made from 1992 until 2003, a pro spec lens which was presumably priced to compete with the comparable Nikon and Canon lenses (there was a Minolta version too). It relies on screw drive in the Nikon version for its AF. Given the time it was made, that AF was in its infancy, that it was designed to work with film: I think its performance is astounding. I bought it from a bloke on eBay. I had no knowledge of its abilities. I bid for it purely because it was cheap for a pro lens of this type, and I think I got a bargain, (eBay acquisitions do not always work out like this!)

Pylons

26 Jun 2020 87
I have never seen a pylon in the course of being erected. I think this is uncanny. Nikon D3s + Tamron AF 70-210mm f/2.8 SP LD 67D lens. ISO 250; f/11; 1/320th; 210mm. Try pressing 'z' - it makes it look a sight better.
