Bench

This is the England of the beginning of the cricket season, the England of straw hats and benches to sit upon. There are Austin cars and capable ladies wearing cotton dresses in floral prints, and the men smoke pipes and wear sleeveless jumpers hand-knitted to a Fair Isle pattern. Their children are dressed exactly the same as their parents except that the boys wear short trousers until their voices break. It's all gone forever now.
