"Saint Jacques", wearing the "coquille" on his hat, will protect all pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela, just about 250 kms north from Porto.

It was founded in 1880, but nowadays the building hosts an "urban.culture.store", what ever that is. The art nouveau facade (cast iron!) is from 1905.

After the doors were locked for 10 years it was reopened and by now, here is as well a snack-bar and a restaurant. After 2007 a wide civic protest and a petition with 50.000 signatures saved the market, as it was planned to demolish the market. Since 2015 restoration and modernisation is now under way.

The "Garagem Passos Manuel" opened in 1939 with three parking levels and shops on the ground floor. The building, designed by architect Mario de Abreu, still serves as a car park.

After an older concert hall had been demolished, the erection of the "Coliseu do Porto" started in 1938. The new building opened in December 1941.
