I’m not entirely sure if this substation has been decommissioned completely. This Sub use to run 34.5kv to (I’m assuming 4kv or 4160v.) years ago. I think it now runs 13kv or 12kv to 4kv now, I could be very well wrong. I was standing by the fence and I heard the Transformers still making a buzzing noise, so I’m a little bit confused now.

This is one of very few 34.5kv “Pocket Subs” left on MoPub’s grid. I need to do a Line Safari in this area soon before KCP&L or IP&L decide to take down the rest of the 4kv System in this area.

Power Lines, Jesse Lor, have particularly liked this photo

If it's the old can, then it's probably still 34.5 at primary.

I've seen Alabama Power run old 46/4.16 kV subs off of the 12.47 kV grid by installing a 46/12.47 kV transformer and running it backwards as a step-up to power all the old equipment. Ultimately, the sub would run as a 12.47/46/4.16 kV setup, with no incoming or outgoing 46 kV lines.

Here's an example in Mobile, AL I photographed a few years ago:

That’s interesting. That’s something I need to keep a eye out for.
