Retired lighthouse at Southerness Point (on the Scottish side of the Solway, across from Silloth, Cumbria). Originally built in 1748/49, and significantly altered in 1842, it was taken out of service in 1931. SoId to the present owners in 1995 and much restoration work has been done, since 2006 it has been open to visitors (during summer weekends) and the view is well worth the climb (only 66 solid stairs, btw) up to a small museum display in the lamp room.
