clch - UK energy sources

clch - UK energy sources
The UK has greatly reduced reliance on two fossil fuels [coal and oil] for generating electricity since 2005, whilst increasing the role of renewables. This graphic does not show imported electricity, now becoming more of a major factor in the UK. For other reasons, the UK's nuclear sector is playing a reduced role over the same period [primarily, the older magnox reactors are being decommissioned].

One factor that may be slightly distorting this picture, is that quite a few of the domestic scale solar panel and hydro schemes generate power which the grid measurements totals see only as a reduction in demand for power.

For example, I know of a site in North Wales that has recently installed a lot of solar panels, which will power the attached workshops, so the organisation will not be buying as much electricity from the suppliers on the national grid system.
