After significant efforts, the line was cleared to reopen on 17th February 2020.

I had been in Birmingham on the Saturday, and started to travel home by rail on Sunday (at a very reduced speed) but ended up stopping in Preston at lunchtime and staying there overnight, due to the appalling weather [wet and very windy]. That was "interesting" watching lamp standards wobble in the wind from the upper storey windows of the hotel. Finally finished the journey on Monday afternoon.
