Flowers blush. It may seem remarkable to say this, but it is true. Many flowers change colors after they are pollinated. This physiological shift happens because of a pH change from basic to acidic within their petals, possibly triggered by pollination or subsequent fertilization. In other flowers, colors often change with age, transitioning from a young, rewarding bloom (rewarding to the pollinator, that is) to an older, senescent one. . . .
