It is interesting to note that right-hand preference appears to be largely a human trait. Only in chimpanzees has a week right-hand preference been demonstrated and typically occurs only in captivity, which may be indicative that the chimps are emulating their human caretakers. It is also interesting to note that nearly all right-handed people have speech located in their left hemisphere, and about 70 percent of non right-handed people also have speech in their left hemisphere. It is thought that fewer than about 10 percent of non-right handed people are ‘mirror’ left-handed people -- that is they have speech in the right hemisphere and favor their left hand. ~ Page 35
