alcea rosea
Alcea rosea, Alcea dal greco alkè = forza, vigore.
Cresce alta fino a 2 metri, ha fiori grandi di 6 – 8 cm di diametro, con colori che virano dal bianco, al giallo, al rosa, al rosso, al bordeaux, al viola, fin quasi al nero. Un tempo veniva coltivata negli orti e piantata lungo i muri delle case e lungo le strade. Era spesso presente nelle nostre campagne, essendo un fiore povero, ma molto ornamentale e facile da coltivare. Basta raccogliere la semenza, farla germinare in primavera e poi trapiantarla in autunno. Si riproduce anche da sola con estrema facilità ed ha bisogno di pochissime cure. Ha proprietà medicinali simili a quelle della Malva e dell’Althea.
In realtà spesso i botanici scambiano nei loro testi queste ultime due specie, definendo Alcea quella che altri classificano come Althea. Io mi riferisco alla classificazione proposta da Acta plantarum.
Anche il termine Malvone è usato talvolta per indicare L’Alcea.
