Le vecchie pietre di Ménerbes
Another castle for Ron :)
Ménerbes è un affascinante borgo medioevale fortificato, costruito su uno sperone roccioso a foma di naviglio.
Citato nel 1081 come "Menerba", deriva forse il suo nome da quello della dea Minerva.
Il sito fu abitato fin dal neolitico (lo testimonia il Dolmen della Pichouno) fino al Medioevo senza interruzione, l'imponente cittadella fu costruita a partire dal XII secolo e numerosi sotterranei testimoniano l'attività nel borgo nel Medioevo.
Divenne feudo di lmbert d'Agoult nel dodicesimo secolo, fu poi proprietà della regina Jeanne (contessa di Provenza) nel quattordicesimo, che la donò a Jacques d'Arcussia di Capri.
Durante le Guerre di religione Ménerbes si distinse come centro importante del protestantesimo assediato dalle forze cattoliche reali.
