Your ramparts above the loco belong to Calton Gaol. The castle is at the far end of Princes Street Gardens, just before you enter Haymarket Tunnel.

Many thanks for the info. I was always under the impression that it was all part of the Castle.

It's a fairly common mistake. I always think it's a shame that the actual castle isn't as well-located for photos. Even passing it on the train, you only really see the rock, not the castle itself. I don't suppose that photography was in their minds when they built the place though.☺
