Loose_Grip/Pete club has replied to Stephan Fey clubLoose_Grip/Pete club has replied to Peter Castell clubI am finally going to England and intend to ride the train on the Isle of Wight! Won't be able to get a photo like yours of the experience, but you photos are what have inspired me to take the ride.
Sometime in July I should have some sort of snapshot photos to share of the experience. I think I'm just taking my phone and not another camera (still contemplating). It can take some good photos, but not things like this - no where near a long enough lens.
Any thoughts on how to get the most out of the train ride?

Loose_Grip/Pete club has replied to raingirl clubYou should have a great time in the Isle of Wight. The preserved railway is a gem. I personally would take my camera and telephoto but these days camera phones are so good I also take a lot of photos with it, especially on the footplate.
My tip would be for a great experience: when the engine and train are in the station before departure, as long as it's not too close to that time, I would ask the crew if you could visit the footplate. We always say yes at the GCR when there's time and I'm sure they will too.
