Lostock Hall Preston 1st August 1968
Lostock Hall engine shed near Preston three days before the end of British Railways steam in August 1968.

This is the view from Watkin Lane over the allotment fence. On the steam locomotive dump the engines on view are mainly Stanier Black 5s but the nearest is an Ivatt 4 2-6-0.

The coaling plant dominates the centre with the water tank to its right & the engine shed itself to the right of that.

It is wonderful to have photos like this as a record of the past and good to be able to enjoy them along with the memories they evoke. A little bit of history preserved for ever and I like to think some of these beautiful engines have been preserved also. HFF and have a good weekend

Yes, this is how it was in many railway yards at that time. So tinged here with sadness. I am just glad that some of those old pieces were rescued. I remember seeing an old yard holding trains to be scrapped in the Wye Valley. One of which had the words 'Help Me' painted in large white letters on the boiler front cover. -Thanks for sharing this. ⭐
