Great Central Railway Woodthorpe Leicestershire 23rd June 2015

Great Central Railway Woodthorpe Leicestershire 23rd June 2015
British Railways Standard 9F 2-10-0 92212, re-numbered as 92178 for the Timeline Events photo charter. We had spent the last hour or so moving backwards and forwards in and around Woodthorpe for the gallery (seen by the colour light signal) and were now waiting on orders before moving on to the next location near Quorn & Woodhouse station.

, , Fr@nk Eiche, Tractacus and 5 other people have particularly liked this photo

Somebody must have a box of assorted shedplates for such occasions. Super photo.

Thanks. I'm not sure what was the significance of 92178 but as you say somebody must have had the plates. Maybe they are wooden. I didn't check close enough.

Thanks. Me too. Probably the only time you can recreate the way it was without crowds of people about.

Maybe the temporary number was a loco which spent most of its life in the area where as its correct identity never worked there? This was done once for a re-creation week on a rebuilt narrow gauge line here.

I just found this quote from the Timeline Events webpage which explains it :

"92178 was the first 9F with the larger (BRIF) Tender to be fitted with a double chimney. She was also an Eastern Region loco so very likely to have strayed on to the Great Central mainline on many occasions".

Apparently 92212 carried a different kind of tender when in BR service so is not authentic!
