8Fs are one of my favourite classes of loco. This is probably due to seeing them every day as a child.

Mine too. I may well have seen them as a child but have no memory. They were one of very few steam classes left when my interest in railways began in 1968.

Excellent photo.
I must have seen hundreds of these 8Fs during the sixties, but I never saw any in this condition, apart from a few ex works at Crewe. It would be nice to see a weathered one active again.

An immaculate 8F is almost a contradiction in terms but this one is always bulled up. Maybe when 48305 comes out of the works it will revert to its former weathered look!
