Bentley Tileries Ltd

The Bentley Tileries was a relatively late development, being established close to the main line railway at Longbridge Hayes in the 1930s. In 1937 the OS map shows this as the "New Brick Works".The works produced red floor quarries, pavers, tiles / garden & creasing tiles, air bricks, roof tiles. It was closed and the site cleared by 1968.
Garrett Brothers

This paving brick is a product of Garrett Brothers who traded from their Brownhills Tileries in Tunstall and appear in the trade directories between 1861 and 1865.
Hesketh Pit

|
The Hesketh shaft at Chatterley Whitfield Colliery was the last to be sunk on the site (1914-1917) and the deepest at 640 yards.

Ex PMT Leyland Atlantean PDR1 / Weymann, 766 EVT was new to Potteries in August 1959 as L9766. Now preserved, here it is participating in the farewell to Hanley Bus Station event in 2013.

A window into a disused flint calcining works adjacent to the Trent and Mersey Canal at Middleport.
Metal Fairies

|
Wherever there's a derelict site there are the metal fairies who strip away any scrap they can get their hands on to sell for cash. On this former bakery their means of transport seems to have suffered catastrophic wheel failure and has been abandoned in the middle of the wastelands.
Middleport Pottery panorama

The Middleport Pottery opened in the 1880s and has continued in production to the present day. In 2009 with the business facing closure it was purchased by the Prince's Regeneration Trust and the buildings underwent restoration and regeneration. The boat is typical of those that carried pottery materials to the works and probably finished ware away for export.
Chimneypot museum

This former co-operative shop in Longport now houses a fascinating museum of chimneypots. Pots are also for sale, so if you need to match what's on your roof then this is the place to start.
The little lions are a bonus feature.
Famous Lion

|
There are four of these terracotta pieces on the frontage of the former Famous Lion pub on Church Street, Stoke-on-Trent. Sadly two have been badly damaged and the remainder painted over. The pub is now a trendy bar.
Middleport Pottery 1888

This panel proudly declares the Middleport Pottery and when it was opened. B&L is the initials of Burgess & Leigh the owners at that time. In 2009 with the business facing closure it was purchased by the Prince's Regeneration Trust and the buildings underwent restoration and regeneration. Today it continues in business producing Burleigh ware.

Baelz Equipment Limited

Baelz Equipment Limited manufactured a wide range of handling equipment for oil and petroleum products. The company occupied the Chubb building in Wolverhampton from some time after 1938 until 1978. The sign on the wall at the corner of Chubb Street is written over the details of a previous occupier
Tamworth Co-op

|
|
Tamworth Co-operative Society was formed in 1886 and remains independent. It operates this deprtment store as well as a supermarket and number of convenience stores. It is one of the few remaining truly independent co-ops in Britain.

Defending the main line

|
A Virgin class 221 SuperVoyager hurries north along the West Coast Main Line close to Hopwas in the Tame Valley. The pillbox formed part of the Western Command Stop Line No.6 and ran from Tamworth, E side of Stoke-on-Trent, to Macclesfield and Stockport, thence to 6 miles SE of Manchester.
