Rudyard Lake
A New Year's Day walk around Rudyard Lake provided an opportunity for this against the light view shortly before midday. It was surprising that within half an hour it was hailing and raining heavily.
Great Marquess - Froghall
Glint with everything including the wires as he Great Marquess runs round its train at Froghall on the Churnet Valley Railway. The sunny weather was a bonus for the running in visit by this locomotive before it headed for Scotland.

Ditcheat Manor departs Froghall
The Churnet Valley Railway in Staffordshire combines picturesque countryside with occasional industrial areas. Here 4-6-0 Ditcheat Manor departs Froghall past the premises of Thomas Bolton the long-established copper manufacturers and processors. Unusually for Britain in early 2007 the sun is shining.
Rudyard Lake
A bright start to New Year's Day 2007 and a brisk walk around Rudyard Lake was in order. The reservoir was looking its best in the pale sunshine.

Burslem snooker club
Burslem Snooker Club on Cleveland Street is the oldest billiard/snooker club in England. It was opened in 1913 and still uses the same tables. This is rather earlier than I would have guessed from the architecture which I would have put in the 1920's.
Wilkinson Bros Longport
Brothers Jabez and Samuel Wilkinson were working as builders and then started a new brickworks at Longbridge Hayes around 1924. A third brother, Joseph Wilkinson, joined the business and in 1934 they formed Wilkinson Bros (Burslem) Ltd. This company ran the new works until closure in the 1950s.
Foxfield Colliery

Now in the care of the Foxfield Railway the colliery remains as undergoing a Heritage Lottery funded refurbishment as part of the expansion plans for the railway.
Portland Street North - Leek
An odd looking house in Leek with some unusual terracotta work. I suspect that this was designed by Larner Sugden, of the local architectural firm of W. Sugden & Son.
The crossing

Foxfield Railway Bagnall 0-6-0T 'Lewisham' at the farm crossing close to the terminus at Caverswall Road.

Wardlow Quarry detail
The red/orange colouration of the limestone at Wardlow Quarry is quite evident in this detail.
Bagnall at Caverswall Road
The fortieth anniversary of the Foxfield Railway was celebrated with a special weekend of trains. Bagnall built 'Lewisham' was one of the locomotives in service and is seen here moving forward onto its train at Caverswall Road Station. The countryside seen from the train looked at its best and the good news is that services from the Foxfield Colliery site could start later this year.

Wardlow Quarry overview
There is little activity to be seen in this section of the extensive Wardlow Quarry near to Caldon Low in Staffodrshire. This area rejoices in the name of the 'Weaver Hills' and is riddles with mines and quarrying activity.
