Land of the incline

Land of the incline
Penmaenmawr adventures with so many inclines to climb and enjoy. Looking down incline 40 to the drum house of incline 39. Penmaen Mill just visible to the right. And of course the stunning views on a sunny day. These granite quarries are still worked on part of the mountain, but these particular inclines were out of use by the early 1960s.

Do you know what was there before the freeway (motorway)?

It was just the coastal strip with beach huts etc. I remember staying at a corrugated iron youth hostel at Penmanemawr. The site of that is also under the road. The old road is the one seen running through the village and was very congested at times. The A55 is the main route from Ireland via the port of Holyhead.

I just looked at the satellite view and see now where it is and the need for it.
