Orchids

One of the Orchids growing in the new Enmax Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo. I think these pure white ones are quite elegant, even though less dramatic than most of the coloured ones with patterns on their petals.

This is a small, delicate Orchid in the Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo. This Orchid and many others there were donated/willed by a very generous gentleman, and we all appreciate his generosity and kindness!

The ground is white, our trees are white, our sky is white - yes, we are in the middle of a spring snow storm and the Winter Storm Warning is still in effect. We should be used to this, but it doesn't make it any more pleasant, ha. So glad I went out for urgent groceries yesterday afternoon. So, here's a splash of colour for all of you who are once again living in a world of white. At least it's only -2C today, and not -22C or -32C, which is definitely something to be thankful for. I think these are orchids, but I'm not sure. Suspect they could be Spathoglottis plicata. Photographed at the Calgary Zoo Conservatory on 8th July 2010. Drive carefully, everyone! A delicately coloured Orchid growing in the Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo.

These are tiny, delicate Orchids that were growing in the Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo (before it was demolished, ready for the new building to be started).

Another gorgeous Orchid in the Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo. I seem to see new Orchids every time I visit the Zoo - the staff do such a great job there! I love the sparkle that the camera catches.

I thought this was such a dainty orchid, with the added magenta petals. Seen growing in the Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo. It has been a real eye-opener for me, seeing such a huge variety of Orchids there. Thank you, Mc Shutter, for the ID (Cattleya)!

I just liked the colours in the bokeh of this image. This gorgeous Orchid was one of many different species that were growing in the old Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo. I'm quite sure they are all in very capable, caring hands until the new Conservatory is finished around fall of 2009.

These Orchids, growing at the Calgary Zoo, make me smile - they are just so totally covered in pattern : )
