Creeping Thistle

Creeping Thistle
When all the birds are too far away, I turn my camera lens to anything else of interest or beauty. On 30 September 2013, I was on a bird walk with friends in the Sikome and Lafarge Meadows areas of Fish Creek Park and happened to notice that this Creeping/Canada Thistle plant was still in bloom. All the others in the area had gone to seed. Such a shame that this is an invasive weed, as the flowers really are quite pretty (like so many other weeds).

The colours, details and clarify are exceptional ... there are some benefits ... as they are regarded as a good source of nectar and pollen for honey bees. Natives and Russians also used the young shoots and roots the same way as asparagus ... haha, a future food source, LOL

Lovely photo of this terrible weed. As you say they have lovely flowers but have taken over many fine fields. I just finished spaying my pasture, now is the best time for herbicide control , it goes right done to the roots for winter.
