South Fork American River

South Fork American River
At the put-in point where California Route 193 crosses the river. Kayakers and boogie-boarders are surfing in the little rapids. I'm taking pictures--I couldn't make the boogie board work to save my life! This is probably the most popular river run in the Sacramento area and indeed the whole Mother Lode country.

William Sutherland, , have particularly liked this photo

Thanks! It's just north of Placerville--I've put it on the map.

Thanks, everyone! Yeah, it was not exactly the wilderness experience-- ;)
Near where this run usually ends, outside the village of Coloma, there's a rapid alongside a popular park--so you have lots of spectators if you screw up your run! Coloma, btw, is the site of Sutter's Mill, where gold was discovered in 1848. There's a state historical park there.
