And the Lancaster and Mosquito of course, and I think the Yanks might mention the P51 Mustang ;¬)

In fact it was used on over 40 different aircraft.

I wonder if I could install one in my motor.

Well the engine in my old Centurion tank was a Rolls Royce Meteor which was developed from the Merlin so why not ;¬)

Actually you piqued my interest and I did a Google search:

Michael Wilcock of Sussex, England, built the Swandean Spitfire Special, using a Merlin XXV engine acquired from a scrap yard for one hundred and forty pounds, (incidentally that would be about £3000 in today's prices).

The engine was installed in a home-brewed chassis confected from two Daimler Dingo scout car chassis.

The car was run in the Brighton Speed Trials in 1953, and was sold to James Duffy of St. Louis, Missouri, in 1956.

As of 2005, the vehicle is still in St. Louis, where it is undergoing restoration."

The fuel consumption might be a problem, even now the fuel prices have come down a bit.

Like the Rolls Royce salesman said 'if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it' ;¬)
