Aarstraat

Aarstraat
The Aarstraat is named after the River Aar. In Dutch composite nouns are written as one word, so you can be mistaken in thinking this street is named after a certain part of the human anatomy.

Aar can indeed mean ear or spike, but only in a botanical sense. The ear on the side of your head is ”oor“ in Dutch.

A botanical ear would be "épi" (m) in French, whilst a listening ear is an "oreille" (v).
