Ah, yes, I recognised this straight away from the thumbnail.
Didn't there used to be a road sign here that some vandal tried to knock down?

There still is, and it took a lot of painstaking effort to remove along with the other post, the parked car, an old lady, the park benches, a litter bin and the aerials. Although I didn't have the benefit of a vantage point on the top deck of a bus (I took it from the other side of the road, as far back and high up as I could get) our perspectives aren't very different. Wisely, I made the detour to Marlborough to get this shot en route to Avebury, not on the way back, because I was only just in time (this was around midday) to get it when the sun was on the buildings. Yours I note was taken two hours earlier, which was better.

But thanks for making me aware of its existence of this bit of Marlborough, my having been through the town many a time yet missing it. All skies on yesterdays' pictures are genuine. A pity I couldn't make more use of them.

So you polish off old ladies too! Good job I stayed on the bus.

There were a lot of them around. Perhaps the brick building, right, is a granary.

I know the building intimately, having, in the process of removing that g*****n traffic sign, had to reconstruct it almost brick by brick.

The BIG QUESTION is whether John As-Is will prefer the road sign.

He no doubt would.

The ideal POV would have been from the first-floor window of the house in front of which I was standing, taken an hour or two earlier in the day. From there the sign would have been clear of the buildings and much easier to remove. Also the higher POV would have revealed more of the interesting buildings behind - see the cupola, just left of centre which in yours is hidden by a chimney.

Drones (on which digital cameras proper can be mounted and remotely operated) give an almost unlimited choice of POV, which would have been useful here. But they require more time and know-how than I have.

I've just joined The Queen's English Society. I've known the Chairman for 25+ years. He lives in Headington.

How naice. So you will now be saying 'orphan' rather often.

I have two naices and two nephews, and a great-nephew and five great naices, two of whom were supposed to be coming on Wednesday, but didn't, and I went to Avebury instead.

Unconnected with that, my maternal grandfather, who lived to almost 102, begat my mother (the eldest of four) when he was 22. Consequently my mother only became an often at the age of 79.

Most members of the QES are too old to change the way they speak, and the Society's aim and purpose is not to revive antiquated pronunciation, but to preserve and advocate the use of decent, grammatical English in journalism, modern literature, academia and government, lost cause though that may be.

The first lesson must be that, whilst it is orphan acceptable to use numerals for people's ages, other numerical words are generally written in letters, as in 'eldest of four'.

But I support U in preserving the English language B4 it's 2 late.

Even for comments on Ipernity? So be it. In that case, it being open season on each other's grammar, expect to hear from me soon.

I'm sure I will, but like I don't pretend to be a grammarian.

"I'm sure I shall" is the correct usage here.

I'm sure you shall too. Just checking whether you was paying attention.

From where I'm sat it seems like I can't win, so let's have less exchanges, even if incredibly cool and different to each other. Let myself know; a man can help themselves. My dad, like my mum and nan, was like: "Pardon; I'm going to the toilet, the one off of the lounge". Maybe there's no alternate way of saying it.

Any more of this and I'll be incredibly like: "a barf bag please, and quick!"

Who sat you there? Did they have to carry you across the room?

No; I like got the best shot from where I was stood.

You might have an oversensitive insula, which produces a feeling of revulsion on seeing/hearing bad grammar.
