The Yacht, Greenwich

The Yacht, Greenwich
Square format, eye led in all directions, migraine-inducing, unnatural, contrived, blurred, too much sky, not enough lead-in, needs cropping, harsh... Just dire.

Nouchetdu38, Andy Rodker have particularly liked this photo

Yes, it's such a shame that Greene King seems hellbent on blandifying all their pub signs.

Small world. But the new sign (in this case) looks more authentic and traditional.

You've got to be joking. It's typical dingy Greene King and not at all inviting.

Which sign are we talking about? The generic "Greene King" or "The Yacht" one? The latter clearly depicts a large, multi-sailed vessel, not a dingy.

I mean Rhoea Cropper, and none other.

Price Charles, who talks to plants, might know what sounds like one. Meanwhile we wish Rhoea Cropper a good harvest.

Well, it's ultra busy and I agree that it could be head-ache inducing if looked at for too long, but in the main I find it a cheerful and colourful expression and on that front, I like it!

I bet this is done for the tourists, rather than a true expression of patriotism.
Vulgar, tasteless and tacky, but they probably flap nicely in the breeze.

They're no more to do with patriotism than the flowers are, and are appreciated by people, tourists and others, who need a little colour in their lives.

I'm not sure that the tourists have come in search of colour, or that they lack colour in America. They simply want to DO Britain. But I would certainly appreciate more colour in Greene King's dingy pub signs.

A lighter greene?

The dark green is fine, although the plain white lettering is rather boring and I would prefer to see a more traditional font. No, it's Greene King's tendency to replace nice pictures with dark and dreary ones, which do not catch the eye or look in the least bit enticing. I give links to two examples.

Yes, things have moved on some, since I last posted! I was going to comment on Prince Charles talking to plants and I will do so and only alter one little thing from my originally intended comment and it is that since KING Charles talks to plants, I'm in very good company!

Talking to plants is one of his more endearing traits, in my opinion, along with his contribution to the English language of the word 'carbuncle' to mean an ugly modern building. But his climate misinformation and links to the WEF make him a dangerous monarch. I would never curtsey to him.

This is a blind shot I took of him, on my longest zoom, through a window where I couldn't actually see him but guessed he would be standing. I had to do quite a bit of enhancing.

I did get closer to The Queen, at the Buckingham Palace garden party in 2011, but cameras weren't allowed there.

I've had my doubts about His Maj ever since I heard he was seriously into quackery (sorry, homeopathy). But at least he's tried hard these past few years to keep controversial thoughts and ideas to himself (more or less).
