If I am to be the honored guest at dinner, why am I behind bars?

"Oh wait ... you say I am going to be the dinner ?! "

... I will(!) eat turkey for Thanksgiving. Even though nowadays I have decided not to kill things, I am not a vegetarian: bring on the chicken wings, double cheeseburgers, and barbeque !! ...

Oh my...I sure hope that turkey will be a pet and not dinner!! I would never be able to kill and eat the animals that I raised...it will just destroy me. As a kid, I came to terms with the fact that we eat animals for food, and I would make it a point to recognize what I was eating and the fact that it was an animal that I would adore if it stood before me, but I was ok with eating it just the same. I just couldn't eat something that I personally knew! :)

Where I live, we are fortunate for flocks of wild turkeys and we simply adore them. Such silly looking birds, and so many wonderful sounds they make.

If I had to kill it, I couldn't eat it. My dad once killed one of our chickens . Mum cooked it . Dad managed to choke down a small bit. The rest of us couldn,t manage it. That was the last animal of our acquaintance that we tried to eat. A slab of meat in the supermarket is one thing. Eating an animal we knew when it was alive is another thing!

Great portrait though.
