Onesiphorus Tyndall (1790-1855) was born in Bristol, where his family had been merchants, slave traders and bankers. Educated at Eton and Oxford, he became an impecunious barrister, with debts amounting to £50,000. Quoted from the Geograph website

And there he is standing next to the church he and his wife built for the village. A good and rich marriage turned him into a reformed character.
