Honesty growing through wild fennel

Both plants are abundant at the moment in the countryside of Central Spain. Taken near El Escorial. I see some leaf-cutting insect has had a go at the petals!

The white, guano-stained, rock up above, is where I creep up to as quietly as I can to take photos of the Griffon vultures that normally occupy this place. it is estimated that this huge precariously sited boulder is so white because Vultures have been here since the end of the last ice age, therefore 8 - 10,000 years. Enough time for a serious staining problem to develop! Sierra de La Cabrera, Madrid Province. Also, one of these granite hot heads is going to get red-carded for a head butt soon, probably both of them!

A good walk along this granite coast.

Puente de Los Franceses

A famous bridge in Madrid built to take the first trains to the north in the 19th century. Here it crosses the Rio Manzanares. Much shelled in the Civil War as it was effectively in no-man's land for the best part of three years. But it survived!

Western Ridge

Sierra de La Cabrera with the Convento Monasterio de San Julian y San Antonio. Without the right lenses, stitching ability, etc, I have never been able to get the whole ridge in one shot from this close. Therefore, the best I can come up with are these two shots next to each other!

Samphire Island (or possibly Asparagus Island), Porthcadjack, Cornwall. I have never known which of the two islands is which. I asked a wizened old sea dog in a Portreath Pub once and he said in an almost impenetrable Cornish accent; 'Who the f... cares' I still don't know! In the very far distance, Godrevy Island and lighthouse.

Zennor Hill

This granite lump of a hill dominates the tiny village of Zennor in West Penwith, Cornwall. Taken from the coast path. Please enlarge.

More granite! La Sierra de La Cabrera on a hot autumn day. Directly ahead is El Cancho Largo, the highest point in the sierra and my 'Guardian of the Mountains' as seen in profile in some earlier shots. Taken from the GR10 which runs past here: the long-distance footpath from Valencia to Lisbon.

Lane to Men-an-Tol. Without wellies (most people were braving sandals or similar) the best way was to roll up your trouser legs or tuck your skirt into whatever was available, or trespass in the adjoining field. Most people did the latter! Taken and posted in 2017, re-posted New Year's Day 2021

Star of Bethlehem (ornitholagum). Best enlarged.

Seen on the path between Colmenar de Oreja and Chinchon, Madrid Province. I can name this thanks to Louisa H who named it when I asked for help on Panoramio. Thank you once again, Louisa!
