Sierra de La Cabrera, on the old GR10

Sierra de La Cabrera, on the old GR10
The long distance path from Lisbon to Somewhere in Valencia province used to pass by here. Then on one walk I saw that the distinctive red and white waymarks had been left to fade away and quite by chance I saw them, freshly painted, on the other side of the Sierra. No idea why the route has been shifted 10 km to the north!

How strange - those markings are a great testimony to past travellers

Thanks Jenny! Actually the markings are natural, water created in the wet season. This is an old path but not often used, it linked the village of Valdemanco to the monasteryy and was used mainly for burial processions. So those are not the indentations from countless footsteps!
Yes, it does (did, it now seems) form a small part of a great long-distance footpath, but even that is little used. On my many visits here (probably more than a 100 in 9 years), I never saw any obvious long-distance trekkers!
