Tower Theater

Tower Theater
Caption under the photo, from today's local paper, The Herald & News:

"The Tower Theater, seen in this 1962 Herald and News file photo, stood on the northeast corner of South Sixth Street and Washburn way. Opened in 1941, it was demolished in 1988."

My mind's eye pictures this in the southwest corner, not the northeast. The memory is a tricky thing, especially when it's the memory of a 13-year-old. I can picture the neon lights and the top was especially exciting. The bland Rite Aid drugstore is in The Tower's place, sadly.

A lovely old photo Diane. I can remember the movie..............they still repeat it occasionally on cable TV.

It never occurred to me that the "Carry On" films would be shown in America..........

A marvellous old art deco building, what a pity it's gone. .

I agree - but, it was the era when art deco was just "an old building," not something to be saved. Fortunately, this was not so much the case in big cities.

Oh, the Constable trailer reminds me on a similar French police series. Well, it wasn't really a series, there were several cinema films. Maybe you know Louis de Funes and his cops from St. Tropez? :-)
By the way: Louis de Funes is the little choleric with the bald head. :-)

That looks fun, I'm going to watch it! No, I have not heard of that one. We did have a lot of French films here. The ones I remember most were " Un homme et une femme" and " Les Parapluies de Cherbourg," but I saw many. Any film with Catherine Deneuve was shown here!

I know "Un homme et une femme" by Claude Lelouch. He made some good movies that I liked....
But the French movies probably are not on FOX TV I guess :)

Delightful old building, sample of a valuable architecture that stirs up happy old memories of when I spent many afternoons at the cinema with my school books under my arm, saying that I was going to study at a friend's!!!! :-D)
Here in Italy never came the Carry on Constable series but it looks fun.
and I think I have never seen 'Drums n the South'..!
At first I thought Gary Cooper !!! was playing there ..but it wasn't :-(
BUT , nonetheless, I had so many other chances to to be charmed by all sorts of American and other foreign movies chewing gums.

Your memories make me smile, Bea. For my little fib to my mother, I used, "I'm going to go study at the library with my friends." Then we would run around town like crazy girls. She always believed me. Ha! It's fun to know you were chewing gum, too! I saw Italian movies, of course La Dolce Vita when I was in high school and old enough to understand the sexy parts. Lol!

Grazie, dear Bea.
