But really, it's a deer-guard for trucks that are driven out in the woods a lot. In Australia, they have to protect against kangaroos!

Well, they don't usually fire missiles, but yes, they're for protection. Unfortunately, the deer and kangaroos don't get protected. It is well known that the animals in question wait for vehicles to come and then leap in front of them. Suicide! ;-o
