A children's paradise! Town children these days miss out on all of this...

Very evocative. I can imagine children swinging about, climbing the tree and generally haveing a good time.

I agree Keith but parents don't let their children out of their sight. I remember (as do you and Diane I'm sure) playing in friends' gardens, in the park or far out out into the country whenever possible and never once was there any parental control in this - we were able to explore and play to our heart's content! We learnt a lot too!
Diane, a fine shot!

Oh yes, we were the last generations of free children, weren't we? No cell phones for mother to bother us with, either (she didn't feel the need, anyway)! And, this gave Mom more freedom, too. Now, parents are driving their kids around to this, that and the other activity. Studies are showing that this adult-organized "play" makes children LESS creative and MORE dependent. I am very relieved that my own grandchildren are having the reins loosened considerably!

Did you go crawfish hunting? That was one of our favorite things to do at the park down the road. It was huge and basically you had to figure out 'how to play' -- no slides or swingsets .. none of that stuff.
Though almost in Fall, the ladies from the Moravian Churches would gather to dip candles for Love Feasts in the Winter. They always let us make at least one (which was so crooked they probably melted it and made it over !)

No crawfish where I grew up. I used to collect tadpoles, AKA pollywogs, and other things in jars. I let them go when they were on the brink of death. Chased my little brothers around with garter snakes wrapped around my arm. Lots of screaming ensued, which was the whole point. Tree climbing was a fave, plus the usual bike riding and general running through fields. Slept on the lawn on summer nights. Mom didn't care where we went or what we did, as long as we were home for dinner. ;-b
