Tennessee
Large forested areas on fire in the Great Smokey Mtns, Tennessee. Many homes and livelihoods destroyed, thousands have evacuated, sometimes driving through fires to save their lives. www.nytimes.com/2016/11/29/us/gatlinburg-tennessee-wildfire.html?_r=0 My heart and best wishes go out to those who have to deal with this catastrophe.

Fires certainly are a real and increasing problem. Well processed.

Yep - your country and mine, all seasons. Gee, I wonder what's causing that (addressed to deniers here and elsewhere).

When my dad was still alive (died 2009) he could not believe the massive forest explosions he was seeing on TV and it's gotten worse every year since then. He was a logger in his early years and working fires was part of the job. They were put out within a few hours with a bunch of loggers with shovels, a CAT dozer and grader. No official firefighting crew was called - there were few of those and certainly no one was called in from other states and even countries! He would be dumbfounded to see that whole towns burn down, now, with people running through the woods for their lives. He changed work in the 1960s.

According to tonight's news, hundreds of homes were burned, 7 people killed and more unaccounted-for. Thousands still not allowed in the vicinity, whether their houses burned or not. The kind of event we have in common with Australia, I'm afraid. This time it was in a fairly well-populated area.

Thanks, Keith.

It was. The pictures of people arriving, finally, at their blackened property are so sad.
