Spark Plug ahoy!

Spark Plug ahoy!
Spring Point Ledge: Another view of this splendid caisson-style lighthouse at Portland, Maine, USA .
We get a fuller look of the 900 metre breakwater here built by the Army Corps of Engineer in 1950. A fast game of hopscotch as I raced from end to end in time to catch my ride back to the ship.
The building in the background is Fort Gorges built in 1858.
See PiP for my earlier version and extra details.

Enjoy full screen

Two super shots Herb. Your main picture is superb. I am pleased you made it to the ship in time! It looks a bit precarious!!
All the best, Rosa.

Good that you enjoyed them both Rosa. Yes, we made it OK and even had time to get to the next lighthouse too. It was only that we were at a fixed time here. The big rocks were not for everyone

Cheers. Herb.

Yes a real game. Some of the rocks were actually far bigger than they appear on this photo, each one being 2-3ft wide and quite deep too. A real chance of a broken limb it your foot went in-between them. Anyway glad you liked this picture, as I knew you would.

Cheers. Herb

I've been waiting for this photo since you mentioned it Herb...........and it's not disappointing. The breakwater is a wonderful piece of engineering and those who put it together must have had a flair for doing jigsaws!

The scale and detail is awesome. Beautifully captured sir. You did well not to break a leg or ankle travelling the length of this and back again :-))

Very interesting Herb,.. and as Keith points out judging by the large size of the blocks and distant figures those are quite deep gaps to slip into,.. however your Gazelle like nimbleness sped you along safely ...// Dj.,..
