Majestic Barmouth

Majestic Barmouth
Just a few yards away from my previous photo one can get views like this. We are looking down to the south edge of the town. It mainly faces the sea on the other side of the rock face we see here. A very long hike if we would have wanted to walk down from this viewpoint. Of course the star of this photo is Barmouth’s historic railway viaduct along with its now defunct swinging bridge. The distant hills belong to the Llŷn Peninsula and the Island to the left is Bardsley Island.

‘Barmouth's location on the west coast of North Wales and lying between a mountain range and the sea on the mouth of the river Mawddach is arguably one of the most beautiful locations in Wales. It rests just within the south west corner of Snowdonia National Park and is steeped in a history rich with connections to the shipping and slate industries.’

Thanks Amelia. I have visited Barmouth on a number of occasions and have even walked over the viaduct a few times too. As you say a great place giving one, not only seaside splendours but hill and mountain opportunities as well.

Thanks for this Gordon. The last time we saw Barmouth from here, we could hardly see it because of mist and drizzle but this time we were lucky. Almost coincidently we also saw high views of the town from the hills we see here on the right. Many thanks for the star, glad you enjoyed it large.

A fantastic picture in full screen Herb, showing so much detail. I would love to visit there.
It looks beautifully atmospheric with the muted blues.
Cheers, Rosa.

Thanks Rosa. A wonderful little place which is well worth a visit. We once stayed for a few days in a seafront flat here with my parents! (now all posh apartments!) Glad you looked at it full size here. Yes, I resisted the temptation to boost colours and contrast for effect!

A cracking view from a. great viewpoint Herb...........the town and bridge look beautiful and the little beach looks pretty good as well. I really like the colour of the sea...........and the way the horizon and the sky meld together. Beautifully composed and taken.

I've been on a couple of photo holidays to Wales with friends and we based ourselves in Porthmadog, which doesn't seem to far from here.........although we never made it round that way, more's the pity!

You would know this bit of line no doubt but a long time since it has steam engines go over. Still, its a very attractive viaduct/bridge closeup or in views like this. Glad you liked it.
