Memories from Lanzarote: Camel Safari

Memories from Lanzarote: Camel Safari
Up in the heights of the Timafaya National Park it can get a bit wild. Since Lanzarote gets on average only 18 days of rain compared with our 184 in NW England it’s also very barren and dry. One of the few animals that can survive is the dromedary and for some time, people have been making use of that. Here we see one of the very regular tourist ‘camel safari’ tours that captivate the visitors. You can sit in relative comfort, two at a time for about 30 minutes, up and down (sic) on these trails gazing at the black ashen slopes. ~ Not for me, much too slow and not the best way to photograph the scenery I thought, but I managed to get some shots of other folk enjoying themselves. You too, enjoy the spectacle and marvelous alien scenery here.

As usual best view full screen on black.

Wow, apart from the tourists and camels, you have captured some excellent light here, Herb.

Personally, I can't think of a worse way to see the sights!

An interesting shot though Herb..............and you're right in calling it an "alien" landscape.

Agreed Keith, but it did add colour to the scene, In reality we only stopped here with the coach for a few minutes to drop off and then collect some of our party. I would have loved to have a real explore (on foot) around here though. We carried on to the top fire-mountain where we had lunch and watch flames in fissures. All my photos from there have my friends and family on. -Some more shots to come though.

Take care. Herb

... an interesting way to see the sights; and side-by-side seating ... looks so sedate, I'll bet a camel stampede would liven things up ...

(I heard a [negative] appellation recently: "touron" -- I haven't parsed all the nuances yet, but I think its a self-centered tourist loudly ignorant of local customs/populace/place.)

Hi Wally, nice to see you here again -it's been a while now!
Glad you found this photo interesting enough to comment on and it brought a smile to your face thinking about a stampede!!! - I like your word 'touron' here and perhaps it is most apt -after-all this is a most unnatural pastime in these relatively new Islands.
Keep happy and safe my friend. Herb

Lovely light on this strangely beautiful landscape Herb. The camel ride would not be for me either but you did get a lovely shot here.

Thanks Carol -no not for everybody for sure. i could have stood it OK but would have liked to walk up that path sooner than ride. Glad you enjoyed this.

Keep safe. Herb
