Looking North from Hartshead Pike
A rare clear night beckons me out to my nearest high point only a fifteen minute drive from my home at around 23:00. Even so, in these days of semi-lockdown, there are other people still up here enjoying the views in the unusual warmth. This is almost a view towards the highlights of Oldham to the NW, Notice the still blue after-glow of daylight where the sun had dipped hours before, a result of our relative high latitude.

The results of 12 portrait shots in a double vertical row with my Tokina 11mm taken at F5.6 for 10 secs using a clear-night filter to help take away the light pollution.

Thanks David. My friend Steve P, had seen an article about these anti-light pollution filters and related it to me. The rest is history. In practice they filter the pink lights of city lights out from the sky well above. Good that you liked them.

Thanks Keith. Yes the night sky looked particularly attractive on this night. It was still too light to see the Milky Way but I was happy with these. The city lights, as you say look quite exciting from here but they contribute to the lack of stars too.

Glad you enjoyed these Steve, S you know, I seldom get out enough in clear skies to take such things. Only a few hours drive away would be clearer skies but I never know and as you say, when the weather is fine it is either too light in the height of Summer or too cold in Winter.
