Stainforth Force

Stainforth Force
A slow view of this very fast falls in flood conditions.

Stainforth Force in the Yorkshire Dales is the name given to a series of small cascades on the River Ribble just south of Stainforth Bridge, an old packhorse bridge that dates back to 1675. See Pip for normal view and glimpse of bridge.

Tech data: Nikon D7100 at 30 secs. Tokina 11-16 ATX Pro f2.8 @F11. Filter: NiSi x10 ND 100mm (The Big Stopper) mounted in Lee filter holder. All sat on Manfrotto 055 tripod.

Enjoy full size

Slow speeds like this certainly shows water in a different light Joe.

Belated HFF to you too but this was niot my HFF entry at all -not a fence to be seen here (only behind me!). Herb

Super shot Herb like slow speed shutter shots my big stopper gives a slight colour cast I must get a glass one. I like your photos they are pure not like mine too much fiddling and processing I must try to cut it down .
All the best TOZ.
Ps like the pip.

Good to see you again Toz. Thanks for reminding me that this is called a 'Big Stopper' not a 'Big One' like I originally described here. I have had colour cast on here too but not too much. I believe that the NiSi one was a better colour than the equivalent Lee filter but it was expensive. As for purity, I am not sure what you mean or are you talking about your own individual processing that are sometimes pretty contrasty and colourful but always nice too. Anyway, great that you enjoyed this and I am sure its a spot that you will get to again and do the same.
Glad you liked the alternative PiP too.

Having the sound of a waterfall like this may not have the desired effect Nora :) Glad you like it.

Two very dynamic images Herb.............You've captured the water movement very well - the exposure was long enough to blur it, but not turn it into a smooth milky stream!

Both beautifully composed, but if I had to choose a fave, I'd pick the one in the PiP, simply because I like the wet rocks in the foreground..!!

Glad you came along Keith. I must admit that I prefer it when the speed is a little slower too. In actual fact, the next day I went on a big waterfall walk and took lots of photos of waterfalls. All without a tripod and filter and so I will post some of them too. Knowing that, this was in the way of a variation from that lot. Posting next week! -Yes, the two are about 6 ft apart here. Glad you liked them

Cheers and keep safe. Herb

You had a lot of water, this Spring, Herb. Great shot and also the PIP with the bridge.

You bet we did Daniela. We were lucky in Oldham, that because it is built on a hill we were safe from floods but many were not as fortunate, Glad you like these.

These images are so pretty, Herb. I really like how your long exposure has made the water extra smooth. You've inspired me to try a longer exposure next time I have the chance. Karen :)
